SUMMER THROUGH THE NEW TESTAMENT...

Lately, I have found my thoughts to be jumping from one thought to another at such a rapid pace that I do not seem to be keeping any thoughts at all!  “Thought Jumping” seems to keep me from being able to stay focused on any sort of reading which is most frustrating!

Just when I was about to throw in the towel and declare that I am now illiterate, I came across an intervention that I am most excited about; reading through the New Testament over summer.

By committing to beginning in Matthew and reading through Revelation at a pace of 10 chapters per day, without rereading, or stopping to study further in depth, I should be able to complete the “Reading” of the New Testament over summer.

I am praying that the Holy Spirit will teach me to have a quiet and gentle spirit while seeking this time with the Lord.  I am praying that I will be able to give up “Monkey Brain” (leaping, jumping, hopping and skipping in thoughts) to be able to stay focused on the goal.

I am excited to read God’s Word!

I know, I know…

Being of student of the Bible, my first thought regarding this intervention was, “Oh-no! This is not how to study my Bible!”  But I believe the truth of Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.”

So, with that said, here goes day 1:  Matthew Chapters 1-10!

FINDING CONTENTMENT IN MY HOME

"Now godliness with contentment is great gain." 1 Timothy 6:6

Today I made a pie.  It wasn't just any pie, but a gluten free chocolate cream pie with Mr. Goodbar crumble on top.

Making a gluten free crust is not the easiest thing in the world.  Most folks would probably want to give up and not try.  I mixed four different types of flours together in order to form the crust.  And... of course... gluten free is tough to hold together.

The chocolate though... Yummy Yummy Yummy!!!  Nothing is better than home made chocolate pudding with a splash of a chocolate bar in the mix!  Who Knew!!!

God is so good!

I am so thankful He has given me the ability to find joy and contentment in homemaking!

LIFE IS BUT A VAPOR

"LORD, make me to know my end, And what is the measure of my days, That I may know how frail I am.  Indeed, You have made my days as hadbreadths, And my age is as nothing before You; Certainly every man at his best state is but a vapor."  Psalm 39:4-5

What does your day look like today?  How are you planning on spending your time?

Have you thought about how your day could please God?

Recently, I have been watching my grandson.  He is a year old and learning so much each day.  This week he learned to point to his eyes, my eyes, the dogs eyes and eyes on his sand toys.  It was a big deal!  He also clapped his hands all by himself to the song, "If your happy and you know it clap your hands!"  It was awesome!

I could be doing other things with my time rather than spending time with him, but I choose to show him how much God loves him.  To sing with him, dance with him, feed him, talk to him, show him bugs and birds, kiss him and hug him!

Have you thought about how your day could please God?  Our life is but a vapor!

PRAYER...
by Mary Jane

What an amazing privilege we have to pray. Prayer is worship. Prayer brings us to the throne of our Lord Jesus Christ. We are so blessed to know that we are but a prayer away from communicating with God. Prayer should be on our lips from the moment we open our eyes in the morning till we close our eyes at night. And even if we wake up during the night with a thought of someone else, or a worship song in our mind, that is God speaking to us saying, "Someone needs prayer, come to Me now and pray for them." Prayer isn't always about us, it is about those we love, those we fellowship with. It is about the trials people are going through in marriages and in illness. It is about the missionaries around the world serving God. It is about our military and their families. It is about our children no matter how old they are. And yes we can pray for ourselves as well. God never sleeps. He is waiting 24/7 to hear our prayers.

All my life I prayed silently. It wasn't until 2006 when I had my first experience at group prayer. I went to a meeting thinking it was singing, as the title of the event was, Women's Night of Worship. To my surprise it was six ladies around each table sharing in prayer, out loud, one by one. My heart sank, I thought "oh no, I can't do this." So I bravely confessed to these women that I had never prayed out loud in groups before. They were so generous in their words to me assuring me it was okay. Just pass and pray silently they said to me. The prayers started and I was sitting mid way around the group table. It was that very night that the Lord invited me into a ministry of prayer. Words started coming from my lips, I was praying out loud. I had become a voice of prayer, a Woman of Prayer. Yes, my voice was nervous, my hands were shaky as I held the sisters hands next to me. My stomach had butterflies, but I prayed. I knew from that night on that God was preparing me for this beautiful and humbling desire to be a Woman whose Heart is to pray.

I pray for voices that are shy to pray aloud. I know the prayers are in their hearts silently being prayed. All prayers are acceptable to God even if they are one word, one sentence long. Pray for the empowerment of the Holy Spirit to fill you with the words that you search for. Close your eyes and ears to the world around you and feel the presence of Jesus and just pray. I promise you in time you will be one with the Lord in prayer. Their is no fear when we are in prayer at the foot of the throne of our Lord.

If someone asks you for prayer, pray with them right then, or get yourself a little special prayer request book to carry with you so you can jot it down and pray later. God searches daily for prayer warriors and if you feel that knock on the door of your heart, know that God is calling you to be a Woman who has a heart to pray. Prayer is so easy, Jesus taught us how to pray. Matthew 6:9-13

Our Father in Heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation.
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen

Everything we need to know about prayer is in that prayer. As we read in Matthew, God knows the things we have need of before we ask Him. We come to His throne praising him, thanking him, asking for forgiveness of our sins, speaking our request, and always pray in His will be done, not our will be done. We give Him the glory and the honor for what He is doing and what He is about to do. Amen!

In Christ's Love, Mary Jane
